'Feels like home'. That is how our students describe their feelings on staying at UniKL RCMP

On the 6th of April 2019, the Language Education and Debating Society of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) organized The British Parliamentary Novice Debate 2019 taking place at our very own city campus situated in the heart of Perak. This debate competition is held to give exposure to young debaters on the British Parliamentary Debating format. Besides that, it is also to polish Malay and English debating skills among students and to make Malay Debate on par with English debate. The project managers for this event are Syarifah Alawiyyah binti Syed Abu Bakar and Sharifah Nadhirah binti Syed Azmi.

 

This competition involved 24 teams for the English category which is represented by UniKL RCMP, UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET), UniKL Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), UniKL Malaysian France Institute (UniKL MSI), INTEC Education College (INTEC), International Baccalaureate of Malay College Kuala Kangsar (IB MCKK), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Tenby International School, Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO), and a team which is specially invited from University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD). For the Malay Category, there were 12 teams from UniKL RCMP, UniKL MIMET, UniKL MSI, UniKL MFI, UTHM, IB MCKK, University Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) and International Islamic University Malaysia, Kuantan (IIUM KUANTAN). In this competition, each team went through 3 preliminary round matches. In order to qualify to the final round, they needed to be on the top 4 of the overall rank after the preliminary round. UniKL RCMP, UTHM team A, UTHM team B and IB MCKK managed to go to the final round, while for the English Category, UniKL RCMP, IB MCKK, PUO team A and TENBY team 2 managed to book a place in the final round.

 

The 3rd Runner Up brought home cash prize of RM 300, a trophy and an achievement certificate, the 2nd Runner Up brought home cash prize of RM400, a trophy and an achievement certificate. The 1st Runner Up, on the other hand, brought home cash prize of RM 600, a trophy and an achievement certificate. The grand prize was given to the champion, which was, a cash prize of RM 1000, a trophy and an achievement certificate. For each category, the best speaker was given RM 100, a plague and voucher sponsored by Tower Regency Hotel Ipoh.

The champion of the British Parliamentary Novice Debate for Malay Category was IB MCKK represented by Muhammad Haikal bin Mansor and Muhammad Sirhan Sidqi bin Abdul Aziz. The 1st Runner Up was UTHM team B, followed by the 2nd Runner Up won by UniKL RCMP. The 3rd Runner Up was UTHM team A. In English Category, the champion for the British Parliamentary Novice Debate was also from IB MCKK represented by Muhammad Hilman Hanafi bin Harold Kefli and Aliff Ridzuan bin Mohd Khalil Alkhushairi. The 1st Runner Up was PUO team A, followed by the 2nd Runner Up won by UniKL RCMP. The 3rd Runner up was TENBY team 2. The best speaker for Malay Category was Muhammad Haikal bin Mansor while the best speaker for English Category was Muhammad Hilman Hanafi bin Harold Kefli both from IB MCKK. The closing ceremony was completed by a closing speech given by Mr Muhammad Iqbal bin Samadi, Head of Student Development Department of UniKL RCMP.
