Associate Professor Dr Muniandy Narasiman received the “Heroes of Nipah” Award from YB Dr Lee Boon Chye Deputy Minister of Health during the open ceremony of “International Congress on One Health”. He received the award on 25th June 2019 at JW Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya. Dr Muniandy together with 25 recipients received a plaque for their services and sacrifices which they had rendered 20 years ago to control the spread of Nipah virus infections among pigs and humans between September 1998 to April 1999 in Malaysia.
The unexpected Nipah virus outbreak involved 265 human cases in Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan with 105 human deaths and a loss of about one billion ringgit to the Malaysian Agriculture industry. The award was a tribute to the ‘Heroes’ who successfully saved the nation from more damages to farmers and human casualties.
AP Dr Muniandy earlier has received the “PJK Award” from His Royal Highness Tuanku Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, the (late) Sultan of Perak in 1999.
Congratulations Associate Professor Dr N. Muniandy
