Background of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (FPHS), UniKL RCMP
The Pharmacy programme of UniKL RCMP (then known as Perak College of Medicine) started as an “outsource programme” for training of Assistant Pharmacists for the Ministry of Health (MOH) in 2002, with the curriculum being fully adopted from MOH.
On 11th May 2005 the Diploma in Pharmacy programme was fully accredited by “Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN)”. The first cohort of Diploma in Pharmacy students graduated during the 2nd UniKL Convocation in August 2005. In 2006, the new curriculum for Diploma in Pharmacy was implemented.
In 2009, the drafting of MQA documentation for Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) started. Two years later, the Faculty of Pharmacy was formally established, with Professor Dr. Mohd Syafiq Abdullah as the founding dean. Then on 13th February the same year, documents for accreditation of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) were submitted to the MQA for approval.
In 2012 the faculty became known as the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (FPHS) with Nursing (currently under Faculty of Medicine), Physiotherapy and Radiography programmes being parked under the faculty.
In September 2013, the first cohort of 53 Bachelor of Pharmacy students enrolled into the RCMP degree programme for Pharmacy.
